A city in Anoka County, Coon Rapids is a northern suburb of Minneapolis. It is the fifth largest Twin Cities suburb and ninth largest city in Minnesota. The name is derived from the "Coon Creek Rapids" a volatile part of the Mississippi River nearby the mouth of Coon Creek.
It covers an area of of 60.5 km² (23.3 mi²) of which 58.7 km² (22.7 mi²) is land and 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it (2.87%) is water.
