Duluth is the seat of St. Louis County in Minnesota. Duluth is the center of a metropolitan statistical area comprising both St. Louis County and Wisconsin's Douglas County. Duluth is an important commercial, industrial and cultural center of northern Minnesota. The city has developed into the second-largest port on the Great Lakes and is noted for its vivid geographic setting. Duluth’s famous 30-mile-long Skyline Parkway is dotted with buildings that seem to pop out of hillsides. Its exquisite location on a natural harbor at the western tip of Lake Superior adds to the beauty of the city. Duluth is also known as the "Air-Conditioned City because of the easterly winds along the lake that helps in keeping the area cool.
The proximity of the city to Lake Superior influences the climate of the city.Thus it helps to keep summers cool compared to many other cities. Wind, hail, tornadoes, freezing rain, and blizzards are common to Duluth. Fall is an especially pleasant season in Duluth, as the changing leaves throw up a riot of colors in reds, yellows, and browns.
